The formula

Days = floor((today − birth date) ÷ 86,400,000 milliseconds)

Both dates are set to midnight before subtracting, so partial days do not affect the count

86,400,000: Milliseconds in a day: 24 × 60 × 60 × 1,000.
floor: Rounds down, so the count only advances once a full day has elapsed.

Worked example

Born 15 May 1990, counted on 27 July 2026.

36 full years, of which 9 were leap years
36 × 365 = 13,140, plus 9 leap days = 13,149
plus 15 May to 27 July = 73 days
Total = 13,222 days

Leap years are why you cannot multiply by 365

Over 36 years the leap days add up to more than a week — nine days in this example. Anyone estimating a day count by multiplying years by 365 will be short by roughly one day for every four years elapsed. The calculator subtracts the two dates directly, so leap years are handled automatically without anyone having to count them.

Milestone days

The usual reason for looking this up is a round number. Ten thousand days arrives at about 27 years 4 months; 15,000 at about 41 years; 20,000 at about 54 years 9 months. To find the date of a milestone, work backwards: take the difference between the target and your current count, and add that many days to today.

Both dates are normalised to midnight

Time of day is stripped from both ends before subtracting, which is what keeps the number stable through the day. Without that, a count taken in the morning and again in the evening could differ by one, and reloading the page would sometimes change the answer for no visible reason.

Future dates are refused

A birth date later than today would produce a negative count, so the tool rejects it rather than displaying a nonsense figure. The date you enter is saved in your browser so the page fills it back in next time — on your own device only, and clearing site data removes it.

How many days old am I?

Enter your birth date and the page subtracts it from today, counting only whole elapsed days. It handles leap years automatically, which is why the answer is a few days higher than multiplying your age in years by 365.

When will I be 10,000 days old?

Around 27 years and 4 months after birth. To find the exact date, take 10,000 minus your current count and add that number of days to today — the arithmetic is more reliable than estimating from years, because of leap days.

Why is the number different from my age times 365?

Leap days. There is one roughly every four years, so a 36-year-old has accumulated about nine extra days that a straight multiplication misses.

Does the time of day affect the count?

No. Both dates are set to midnight before the subtraction, so the figure stays the same all day and only advances when the date changes.
